Production Supervisor - Secondary

Typical job description:

Pharmaceuticals production supervisors’ co-ordinate a series of secondary pharmaceuticals production lines and its staff to make sure that performance targets in the areas of compliance, customer service productivity and cost are met.

Key Processes:

The exact nature of the work will depend on the size of the employing organisation.
However, it will almost certainly involve:

  • Schedule production and plan production capacity in daily and weekly scheduling meetings;
  • Investigate quality problems (such as failure to comply with GMP);
  • Write up action plans to prevent problems from recurring;
  • Maintain accurate production documents and SOPs;
  • Liaise with team managers to ensure staff training requirements are met;
  • Review the supply process and take steps to improve it;
  • Carry out ad hoc projects.

Entry Level:

5 GCSEs or 5 Standard Grades or 5 National Qualifications (Intermediate) or
BTEC First Certificate in Engineering (or a related area) or
Higher Diploma in Manufacturing & Product Design or
Higher Diploma in Engineering or
Relevant Industrial Experience

Pay and conditions:

Production supervisors can earn between 23,000GBP and 33,000GBP depending on the level of responsibility, complexity and technical understanding involved in the role.

Industry Standard:

Diploma/ S/NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline and
ILM Level 2 Team Leading

Knowledge needed for the role:

  • Current understanding of FDA and EMEA guidelines for Manufacturing Drug Products
  • Experience of working either a pharmaceutical plant or a factory production environment;
  • An understanding of lean manufacturing techniques;
  • Proficient in IT;
  • Understanding of statistics and data interpretation techniques.
